The debut album from Chicago natives Bludgeon was the first album to be released through Joey "Manowar" DeMaio's Magic Circle Music. "Crucify the Priest" was a rather anonymous release, dwelling in run-of-the-mill death metal with a Fear Factory meets Pantera vibe. Dull and generic with no song sticking out from the grey mass. Now they have spent four years working on their sophomore effort "World Controlled". What has changed then? Not much, unfortunately. It is an album that sounds very American but luckily not featuring the hollow production that so many trans-atlantic releases suffer from. Once in a while there are actually moments where I am almost willing to accept their music but they are few and brief and despite these headbanger outbursts I can still not understand why DeMaio would want to release this album, let alone the first one, because there are hundreds of other bands that are far more interesting. I have never claimed Mr. DeMaio to be an intelligent man but he should at least know music by now. Monotonous and uninspiring.
