Bluttaufe
was formed in 1994 by two dark minds named Azazel and Ashtaroth. With their
musical roots found in bands like Hellhammer, Kreator, Sodom, Darkthrone and
Mayhem they started developing a distinct sound built on thrash metal riffs
and black metal vocals. They have released several demos and split EP's with
bands like Nagelfar, ...And Oceans and Asaru and today they definitely belong
to the elite of the German metal underground. This was their actual debut
release and it contains some very interesting riffs that the thrash metal
legends from the 80's should be very happy with. I don't understand the
point of using German lyrics in this case but that is of course up to the band
to decide. The vocals are quite interesting on the other hand with mostly
decent black metal screeches but there are also some occasional clean vocals
that act as a nice contrast. Bluttaufe rise their heads above most of the
competition with this release and if you want to listen to one, and I do mean
one, band from the German underground scene I would advice you to choose this
one. Thrashing war metal is what the band themselves want to label their music
as in a true underground spirit but that is something I couldn't care less
about... This is a quality release for everyone into the classic European
thrash metal pioneers from the 80's but also for fans of melodic black metal.
But be warned, this is the underground opening up to
you.
