REVIEW: Brodequin - Festival Of Death Unmatched Brutality, 2001
5/10
Brodequin - Festival Of Death - cover art Brodequin was formed in 1998 in order to try to bring something new to the world of death metal. Hailing out of Knoxville, Tennessee, this American band plays the most extreme form of death metal with ultra-deep growling, constant monotonous drumming and all of this coated in a very intense sound. The production doesn't show any major flaws but in the end the very monotonous appearance of Brodequin kind of gets to you in a negative way. Sometimes there are some more traditional death metal riffs to be enjoyed but other than that it feels as if nothing happens. This is not because there is nothing happening, it's just that this album is in need of something more than just a brutal sound. I am especially intrigued by how annoying you can actually make drums sound if you put your mind to it. These guys are probably pretty good musicians but this album doesn't really impress me that much. The album was released on the guitarist's own label Unmatched Brutality and if you are looking for some very extreme and brutal death metal you might want to at least give Brodequin a try.
