Sometimes it's not bad to have some known names in your band, especially if it's a new band like Brother Firetribe. Having Nightwish guitarist Emppu Vuorinen as a bandmember made the first steps, especially considering promotion, rather easy for the band. But this of course doesn't mean that Brother Firetribe aren't able to make themselves a name in the scene. Playing a rather catchy kind of melodic metal/rock the band knows how to convince the fans with their debut album "False Metal". The title fits as far as the songs are not too heavy (referring to the 'metal' part), but they definitely should appeal every 80s rock fan. One can almost hear from the way the songs are played that this is no project but that the members, including Leverage-vocalist Pekka Ansio Heino, really like what they are doing.
At first I didn't know what to think about this band and had some doubts about the album, but all these doubts disappeared immediately after I had listened to "False Metal" a couple of times. The more often one listens to these 10 tracks the easier one gets into the album and eventually it becomes hard to actually find some bad songs. As mentioned above the main idea of the songs is the catchiness, supported by bombastic keyboards, heavy guitar riffs and backing vocals that give the songs an additional depth. Not to forget to mention that the songs are almost made to make the listener sing along. Songs like the opener "Break Out", the first single "One Single Breath", "I'm On Fire" and especially "Midnite Queen" fit best to this description.
"False Metal" offers a variety of different songs, from heavier rock songs to slower ballads and everything in between. I would recommend the album to everyone who especially likes catchy melodies with a modern 80s feeling.
