Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses (E.C.D.E.R.) is a rabid blast of crushing grindcore. Definitely a classic grind album in its rawest and most extreme form, even for today’s standards. Although it didn’t advance the genre like “Need to Control” did, it did set a new standard for blasting grind. Brutal Truth included death metal into the mix, which introduces a powerful combination of song writing. While Colin Richardson stayed true with a DIY production sound. Scott Lewis’ drumming is insane in the speed that he plays, while Kevin Sharp’s guttural vocals are at times inhuman, along with Danny Lilker’s shrieking, this album ravages through like an animal with rabies. Most tracks are short, taking grind to the most extreme level. Thrown in are a couple compulsory 1-10 second song blasts, which is what made grindcore famous early on. At times this album seems to repeat itself, but there are enough hooks and interesting song structures to keep this album in the stereo. Brutal Truth matured after releasing this album. As they crafted their sound into more of an industrial grinding noise, but throughout this album you can hear different things that they try, and you know that Brutal Truth are more than just a crusty grind band. This was their starting point, but a fierce punch of chaotic grindcore. If you are a fan of later Brutal Truth albums, then be warned that E.C.D.E.R. is rawer and a more primitive sound. Classic.
