Bulldozer is an Italian band that performed thrash-black metal in the Venom way, in fact this influence could be seen in some details. First of all, the look of the band members reminds of Venom (since they´re a bit grotesque trio, with that picture on the back of the LP where the singer is having a porn magazine in his hands... no comment!). Second, the music itself, alternating dark and funny topics. This way, we can find party songs ("Whiskey Time") and others using a rather satanic approach as the intro "The Exorcism". Apart from Venom, other bands have left their mark on Bulldozer´s style of metal, and Kreator (first albums) and Motörhead are other references. But, anyway, the most significant one is the Newcastle based band. The voice is more of the evil kind - without shrieks like the ones used in modern black metal - and it´s the element that allegedly provides that malevolent trait to Bulldozer´s music, along with some of the lyrics. The sound is audible and very eighties, a bit simple, with no highlights or ornaments; I think you can figure out what I´m talking about. Nowadays it can sound terribly ridiculous in some parts, really, but we must not forget that it dates from ´85. Overall, "The Day Of Wrath" is an enjoyable listen with a strong feeling of nostalgia, and every time the album is played, one must take into account its time, the moment when it was recorded, that period where technicality and musical skills were not relevant at all. There could be millions of opinions about this band. Some will say it´s a masterpiece, claiming Bulldozer as a cult act that influenced a bunch of classic bands; others will simply rant. "The Day Of Wrath" is simply an average album, with good parts somewhere, other silly ones ("Whiskey Time" contains a drum solo in the beginning... and the song itself is nonsense) and not much more. Not a classic for me, but it has got some inspiring moments and it´s not bad at all. "The Day Of Wrath" is a curiosity... but you won´t find many things in this album that don´t exist in other classics of the genre.
