REVIEW: Burial Place - Damnation (demo) Self-financed, 2001
6/10
Burial Place - Damnation (demo) - cover art Burial Place is a symphonic black metal band from Venice, Italy, that was formed in 1994. Their new demo "Damnation" is very melodic and features some very nice orchestration at times, female vocals, contrabass and piano apart from the usual guitars and drums. The band claim to be playing operatic black metal but the female vocals are a little too weak to sound real good but I think that is partly due to the production which is still very good for a demo recording. In the opening of the last track on this demo her voice sounds strong instead and I think it would be a wise decision for the band to handle her capacity more carefully the next time. Burial Place sometimes sound very interesting but there are also moments, especially in the faster sections, when they sound like any other basic black metal band. There is really too little material on this demo to judge their music rightfully but I am still doing it now. Anyway, if you are into melodic and symphonic black metal with female vocals you might want to check out Burial Place because I don't think it's impossible to see this band signing with a label sometime in the near future.
