REVIEW: Burnt By The Sun - Burnt By The Sun (MCD) Relapse Records, 2001
7/10
Burnt By The Sun - Burnt By The Sun (MCD) - cover art Heavy metal riffing and screaming hardcore vocals, does that fit together? Actually it does or at least with Burnt By The Sun from New Jersey, USA, it does. Even though this is an extremely short EP (only slightly above 8½ minutes) it still is enough material to get to know this band rather well. I have never been much of a hardcore fan since these bands often lean towards the punk scene but this is luckily a band that is much more metal than punk. The hardcore vocals consists of nothing but pure screaming and if you like this than I guess it's ok. I can accept the vocals of this band very quickly but I still think it would sound better with more traditional metal vocals of any kind. Burnt By The Sun consists of members from acts like Discordance Axis, Human Remains and Endeavor and if you're into this scene you probably know who these guys are but I have to admit that I don't... As long as they don't dive into their grinding frenzies of chaotic mayhem this band has some very nice metal riffs going on, especially on the two first tracks while the latter two are perhaps a little too simple and hardcore-ish for my somewhat demanding taste. There is a lot of aggression and energy present on this recording though and the overall impression is a good one.
