REVIEW: Cachtice - Satanic Attack Self-financed, 2004
5.5/10
Cachtice - Satanic Attack - cover art The band members of the Swedish thrash metal act Cachtice oppose the current trend in modern metal with clean and costly productions. They do not think this is necessary to produce good music. To a certain point I agree with them. Venom, Bathory and Darkthrone in all honor but what is wrong with a metal album with a clean and powerful production? What would the latest releases from Dimmu Borgir and Therion have sounded like without a large studio budget? Now on to the actual music of Cachtice. This four song demo sounds pretty much as you would have expected from a band who worships old-school thrash metal. Fans of Death Angel, Exodus, Slayer, Holy Moses and Sabbat will instantly recognize the riffs on this disc. The title track is pretty much a standard affair without much of interest. The next two tracks are however a lot more interesting. "Oprichnina" has a nice returning melody line that makes it sound kind of Russian. "Impaled Mazarene" is driven by an intense black metal sounding riff accompanied by pounding drums and is also introduced by female vocals from Veronica "Crwth" Setterhall. The demo is then finished off the way it started with a standard sounding thrash metal song. The weakest element is however the vocals which do not sound awful but leave a lot to be wished for. Cachtice have a few interesting ideas but as far as thrash metal goes they pretty much become a copy of an imitation.
