REVIEW: Cadaver Inc - Discipline Earache Records, 2001
8/10
Cadaver Inc - Discipline - cover art In the early 90s a band named Cadaver produced two of the first albums from the extreme metal scene in Norway. The band then broke up and the founder Anders Oddén went on to the well-known and successful darkwave act Apoptygma Berzerk. Now he is back in extreme metal again with the new (de)creation Cadaver Inc where he joins forces with drummer Czral (ex-Dimmu Borgir), vocalist Apollyon (Aura Noir, Dödheimsgard) and bassist LJ Balvaz. As if this wasn´t enough the debut album from the band also features guest appearances from Norwegian legends Fenriz (Darkthrone) and Faust (ex-Emperor). As you probably have figured out by now that we are talking about a black metal release you would likely want to know if it is just another riverine in the ocean or if it´s worth checking out. With these people involved you expect something good (or perhaps utterly evil) to come out of it and "Discipline" will not disappoint fans of the Norwegian scene. Black metal as intense and powerful as this has not been seen in a long time. Mix the speed of Dark Funeral with the power and diversity of Cannibal Corpse and you will be close to the unique sound Cadaver Inc has explored and developed. As with most black metal albums there are boring fragments to be found here as well but "Discipline" is more dynamic than usual and the drumming is extremely fast but still powerful at the same time. If you want to see the sick and twisted world through the eyes of Cadaver Inc this is your chance.
