REVIEW: Cadaveria - The Shadows Madame Scarlet Records, 2002
9/10
Cadaveria - The Shadows Madame - cover art As many of you probably already know Cadaveria left her old band Opera IX a while ago and have since then formed her own band together with a couple of Necrodeath members. Scarlet Records quickly picked up the band and they have struck gold in my eyes since this is the most impressive release so far from the Italian label. Cadaveria doesn't sound exactly like Opera IX though. First of all Cadaveria herself used to growl a lot more with Opera IX while she is now screaming instead. The result is still extremely good and she is definitely one of the best vocalists on the extreme metal scene today. Her raspy voice suits this kind of music almost perfectly and I'm very glad she didn't call it quits when leaving Opera IX. The music is also a little different since Cadaveria plays a mix of traditional metal, thrash metal and doom metal but the sound is as evil and black as before so don't you worry about that. The only thing I am not too fond of is that this album seems a little rushed since it is only 38 ½ minutes long altogether. That is also different from Opera IX who used to compose rather long songs. If you enjoy any kind of metal more extreme than Helloween I would advice you to check this band out because this woman's vocals are scary. She is also very beautiful...
