Callenish
Circle has grown to become one of the leading Dutch metal bands together with
names like God Dethroned, After Forever and Within Temptation. The band is now
ten years old and celebrates their anniversary with their third full-length
album entitled "Flesh_Power_Dominion". The middle word of that title is a
key word in the understanding of the music of Callenish Circle. This album is
one of the most powerful death metal releases of this year but while still
being very thick and brutal they manage to show off their technical skills in
a very interesting way. The vocals are varied to ensure the absence of the
monotony curse that so many death metal bands suffer from these days. The
vocalist Patrick Savelkoul is a very busy man as well since he also works as
promotion manager at the Dutch label Hammerheart Records who also released the
band's debut album in 1996. Callenish Circle show clear At The Gates
influences but their sound is more intense and heavier in some way. If you
enjoy technical and melodic death metal but still wish to hear a brutal sound
then I would recommend this album to you. The last two tracks of the album are
cover versions of songs from Death (R.I.P. Chuck Schuldiner) and The Golden
Earring. The beautiful cover art was done by no other than Niklas Sundin who
is beginning to show off his graphical skills more and more these days. He
also seems to like the colors blue and green very
much...
