REVIEW: Carcariass - Killing Process Adipocere Records, 2002
7.5/10
Carcariass - Killing Process - cover art Carcariass may have chosen a bad name for themselves since they will often be confused with and mentioned in the same context as the grind legends Carcass (once again...) although the music of the two bands differs very much from one another. However, this band is one of the oldest French death metal bands and formed in 1991. "Killing Process" is the third album from the band and also the most mature and complex one. Thanks to Adipocere Records the production is also very good which helps to push them forward in the eyes of the world. While being both melodic and brutal in their musical approach, the most notable influences on Carcariass are the technical death metal bands from the US who introduced the metal audience to the wonderful jazz fusion sound. Fans of Death, Sadus, Atheist and perhaps even Alas (if you don't mind growling instead of female soprano vocals that is...) will certainly enjoy the music of these French guys. There is a very high level of technical skills and complex song structures displayed on "Killing Process". Sometimes the music appears to be chaotic while still with a plan behind. A good solid release that I would recommend to fans of technical death metal who appreciate melody and don't mind a few jazz fusion elements as well. Stand-out tracks: "Killing Process", "Winds Of Death", "Lost In Agony".
