As most of you should already know, Carcass is one of the most influential death metal and / or grindcore bands to have ever existed. They were essentially one of the bands that can be considered to be the founding fathers of grindcore as a genre. As the band released more material they evolved and grew, encompassing more and more death and heavy metal elements until the release of Heartwork which, in my opinion, is their ultimate masterpiece. There is no denying that this album will blow away all the standards you'd expect from a death metal release and set new precedents that, I assure you, few bands will ever be able to match. The opening track "Buried Dreams" gives the listener a good overall idea of what to expect from the album, extremely raspy vocals, excellent memorable riffage, and sharp drumming. Combine all of it with some talented and experienced song-writing, and you have Heartwork, one of the definitive death metal albums that all metal heads should have as a part of their collection. I really can't praise this release enough. The album is pretty long, there's a decent amount of variety between the songs. The real continuity is found in the energy and solidity of the guitar riffs. "Blind Bleeding the Blind" is a perfect example of Carcass' ability to use syncopation whereas the title track "Heartwork" is a statement of the bands capability to work with staggered blast beats. This is simply an amazing release that no metalhead should be without. You can't go wrong here, Carcass has crafted their finest release in "Heartwork".
