Carmine Appice was successful already in the 60s with Vanilla Fudge and later on he has sat behind the drum kit for many well-known artists such as Rod Stewart and King Kobra. Over time he gathered many friends with whom he decided to release his own virtuoso albums - the Guitar Zeus series - which of course turned out to be most successful on the Japanese market. This is a collection of the best songs from these albums. Among the all-star guests we find everyone from Ted Nugent and Yngwie Malmsteen to action hero Steven Seagal and hot tempered tennis veteran John McEnroe. Furthermore, both Slash and Zakk Wylde provide their extensive talents to a couple of tracks. Overall, the individual performances are impressive but not even the best of players can bring life to already dead songs. It's not quite as bad here although I must admit that the song writing is very far from Dream Theater quality. From such a line-up you would expect a lot more but now it just turns out to be another mediocre mellow hard rock album with an all-star line-up who do their best to help out a friend. I don't doubt that they will sell the album though. Guitar solos can be entertaining but without a song they mean little to me.
