REVIEW: Carnal Lust - Rebirth In Hate Diamond Productions, 2004
6.5/10
Carnal Lust - Rebirth In Hate - cover art The Paris based death metallers Carnal Lust have undergone drastic changes in the line-up since the release of their debut album "Whore Of Violence" in 2003. Most notably the vocalist position has been an object of these changes. Despite this the aforementioned events are not been reflected in the music. Carnal Lust still perform skull-crushing death metal in the Swedish early 90s style with a healthy dose of both technical riffs and a few select melodies. The melodies sometimes seem a little out of place which is a problem for the band who perhaps should rather focus on developing their heavier and more aggressive side further in the future in order to avoid losing potential fans. It is my opinion that death metal fans in general are not too open-minded and receptive of experimentalism and these musical features might serve more as an obstacle than an aid for the band if they are unfortunate. The opening track "Kingdom Of Hate" of this mini album is quite enjoyable with an intense and memorable driving riff and aggressive vocals and interesting guitarwork but the following three tracks lack any characteristic signs and tend to blend together. Carnal Lust is a solid act as far as brutal death metal goes and they have enough interesting ideas to attract the attention of the listener even though it's nothing that we haven't heard before.
