REVIEW: Cast Of Shadows - Rising Self-financed, 2000
8/10
Cast Of Shadows - Rising - cover art This demo from the American band Cast Of Shadows was a real surprise to me and a very positive one indeed. It contains some of the most well-composed and absorbing songs I have ever heard from a band that is currently unsigned. This band deserves a record deal big time I can tell you right away. If you would want a label on their music you might call it emotional thrash metal with progressive influences. The vocal lines are amazingly well arranged and the singer has a voice that is similar to James Hetfield´s of Metallica in their "...And Justice For All" days. An important component of their music and of all music is variety and this demo has lots of it - slow emotional interludes, aggressive vocal parts, fast melodic riffs and even a few beautiful guitar melodies. Cast Of Shadows is a band that deserves your support and it would be a real pity if their talent weren´t to be noticed by a record company. Don´t wait another second, go visit the band´s website at http://www.castofshadows.com/ where you can listen to the demo songs. This disc has become a real favourite of mine in the last couple of days. I mean, you could complain about the vocals being too raw at times but that is the only possible flaw this demo has.
