Sounding more than ever like labelmates Goatwhore are an influence (see the dual vocals, notably including Black Metal-esque shrieking), Cattle Decapitation's quartet of vegetarians are back in 2006 with a sickening (in a good way) blend of Gore/Grind/Death Metal that kicks much ass, whether human or otherwise. Not satisfied with past "successes" or even appearing in a CNN article about Metal and intelligence, to grossly simplify, Travis Ryan and crew (now rounded out by Troy Oftedal as Dan Lilker [e.g. on bass], Josh Elmore on guitar, and Michael Laughlin who drummed on the record but has been replaced by Kevin "Ubiquitous" Talley for the tour) are here with a vengeance. Karma.Bloody.Karma gets high praise for great production courtesy of Billy Anderson (yeah, that guy) and excellent musicianship that keeps the Grind interesting. Even non-devotees of this style of music or certainly the message contained within, should remain interested for the album's 40+ minutes. Guest appearances by Joey Karam (The Locust), John Wiese (Bastard Noise), and even Anderson himself (backing vocals on the killer "Alone at the Landfill") fill out the album, although the album is adorned with some of Wes Benscoter's least offensive art. Whether a fan of the inherent politics or not, Grindheads should flock to Karma.Bloody.Karma and the prowess on display by the decade old Cattle Decapitation. Who knew they'd make it this long? Now if only we could get Caninus a proper record deal....
