REVIEW: Celebratum - Mirrored Revelation Arctic Music Group, 2002
7/10
Celebratum - Mirrored Revelation - cover art Celebratum is yet another Norwegian black metal band who wants to compete with the old legends such as Darkthrone, Burzum, Mayhem, Emperor and others. The band formed in 1996 but then playing some kind of death / doom metal according to their own biography. Today they definitely don't sound like My Dying Bride or whatever. Harsh, cold and furious black metal is what they have chosen as their way of communicating hatred and violence to the world. It sounds a little bit like a mix of Emperor and Hypocrisy, only less atmospheric and epic than Emperor and more violent and raw than Hypocrisy. You can still pretty easily tell from the sharp production that it is a product of Tägtgren's Abyss Studio. Even though the blast-beats and chaotic guitar work of violent black / death metal are scattered all over this disc it is also very melodic at times and this variety helps in making this album a little more accessible I guess. The grim demonic vocals are well executed and overall Celebratum shows a very professional face with this release even though it is their debut album. Nothing really new or groundbreaking but furious Norwegian black metal with a slight modern touch.
