The new
Swedish label Sway Records owes its name to the Terra Firma song called
"Sway" and was formed by Terra Firma member Freddie Eugene together with his
friend Jens Näsström, formerly bass player of the legendary Morbid under the
alias Dr. Schitz. One of the first releases from the label is the debut album
from Stockholm based Celestial Pain, a band that formed in 1993 and recorded a
couple of demos in 1994 and 1995. "Aggression" consists of tracks taken from
these two studio sessions but the band is now once again active and are
working on new material as I write these words. Having spent some time in the
Stockholm underground they reached cult status among a limited number of
hardcore fans who recognized them as originators of "combat metal". I really
couldn't care less about what they want to call their music because there is
nothing new to be found here. Instead Celestial Pain have settled down with a
harsh sound similar to old-school thrash metal acts like Destruction and
Kreator. There isn't much more to say about this album which is only released
in 500 hand numbered vinyl copies. If you have an unsatiable lust for
old-school death / thrash metal from the late 80s then you will probably fall
in love with Celestial Pain as well but otherwise they will not make much of
an impression of you. It's not bad, it's just that it has been done so many
times before and these Swedes don't stick out enough from the competition to
stay in my playlist for very long. "Embraced By Aggression" is at least a
very good song that makes this album worth the time spent listening to
it.
