REVIEW: Cemetery Of Scream - Prelude To A Sentimental Journey Hammer Muzik, 2002
6.5/10
Cemetery Of Scream - Prelude To A Sentimental Journey - cover art Another band new to my ears, C.O.S. is a 6-piece Polish outfit. Somehow signed to Turkish label Hammer Muzik, they coalesce a hearty mixture of doom, black, death and folk to create a unique and fairly interesting album. Not having a lot of traditional Polish music in my collection, I can only assume that the ethnic strains sprinkled about the CD are just that: Polish. It's odd if nothing else, especially after you add in several spoken word passages and liberal doses of all the aforementioned subgenres of metal. I don't know if Billy Idol's pseudo-harelip ever saw much of the Eastern Bloc in its hey day, but the clean vocals courtesy of Marcin Kotas on the track "Colder Than Ever" sure remind me of ol' Bill. Other times, Marcin comes across as more of a doom crooner, and also throws in some standard death grunts for good measure. Keyboards and chunky rhythm parts finish off the C.O.S. formula, and I'm sure you can by now get at least a vague idea of what they're like.
