REVIEW: Centinex - Diabolical Desolation Candlelight Records, 2002
8/10
Centinex - Diabolical Desolation - cover art The Hedemora based Centinex is one of the oldest Swedish death metal bands still in existence today and ever since their foundation in 1990 they have recorded five full-length albums and to this comes a number of demos and mini albums. Opus number six continues in the same style as before with fast, brutal old-school death metal in the same vein as Dismember and old Entombed. After several years on Repulse Records this is their first release on British Candlelight Records where bands like Opeth and Cradle Of Filth has resided before. This is also the last album for the guitarist Kenneth Wiklund who decided to leave the band due to loss of interest and from now on his replacement is Johan Ahlberg from Subdive. I don't think this will change the musical direction of the band though because Centinex have always been and will probably always be faithful to old-school death metal. The music may not be that original and I don't think you will be surprised when listening to this album but these guys still manage to keep my interest up throughout the whole 48 minutes of "Diabolical Desolation". If you are a fan of high quality old-school Swedish death metal this should without a doubt be something for you.
