REVIEW: Centinex - World Declension Cold Records, 2005
7.5/10
Centinex - World Declension - cover art Centinex is one of the surviving veterans from the early Swedish death metal scene but unlike most colleagues they don't hail from the capital area but from the small city of Hedemora in the middle of the country. "World Declension" follows the same pattern as previous releases from the band. It's fast, brutal and tight with a powerful production and the growling vocals from Johan Jansson are very well done. Today only the bassist Martin Schulman remains from the original line-up but the band has not strayed from the path set out early in their career. They have definitely improved their collective instrumental skills though and "World Declension" is probably the technically most complete album they have releases so far. In the middle of all the intense riffing and extremely precise drumming there are some nice and fast guitar solos which have been placed well not to interfere with the flow of the music. The only slight downside of the album is that the songs tend to sound a little bit too similar to each other. Centinex never fails to deliver a solid slab of death metal though and old fans of the band or wall crushing extreme metal in general will surely enjoy this one.
