REVIEW: Chaosfear - One Step Behind Anger OSM Records, 2007
8/10
Chaosfear - One Step Behind Anger - cover art Much like Brazil's most famous sons Sepultura did so many years ago, Chaosfear Thrash to the point of Death and do so very well. That One Step Behind Anger invokes the massive Arise and killer Beneath the Remains is actually welcome rather than trite. Y'see, it's like the Pissing Razors brand of tribute (though to Pantera in that case) which actually adds something to the listening experience, as opposed to just rehashing what has come before. As it turns out, the vocal style and even some riffing can be considered quite similar to that of Pissing Razors. While some may cry foul at a ~new/young band putting out an album that may not be the most original thing to come down the pike in years, it could be argued that these same individuals just don't really love Thrash. Aside from the overall vibe of that Sepultribe sound, especially on the guitar solos, some very Swedish-sounding riffing and harmonizing creeps through bringing a new dimension to an already welcome and familiar sound. The intensity of Vader is also recalled and this independent album is executed with much aplomb. Would anyone be surprised to find out Chaosfear is a power trio? So it is. One would have to anticipate big things on the horizon for the latest Brazilian import based on this effort. In a word: solid.
