The fourth album from Finland's gothic rockers / metallers of Charon has now reached us. I can assure you that the band will maintain their position as one of the leading bands in their genre together with acts like Tiamat, Moonspell, Sentenced and a few others. Gothic rock / metal is a genre that is quickly becoming overpopulated these days but Charon are not waning and their very melodic and melancholic approach to the music will continue to introduce new fans to songs of passion and pain. The strong, emotional vocals from Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto, who can also be heard on the debut album from Poisonblack, are as good as ever and he is once again supported by female vocals from Jenny Heinonen in "In Brief War" and "Every Failure". Her voice has only been given a position in the background but I still think it creates a nice effect and it is a rather unusual way for bands in their genre to use female vocals. When molecules approach a solid surface they can stick to the surface in a close to immediate process simply called sticking. In a similar way the music of Charon attaches itself to the listener from the very first song and refuses to let go until the end. If you are into gothic rock you should know of Charon, it is as simple as that.
