REVIEW: Children Of Bodom - Something Wild Spinefarm Records, 1997
9/10
Children Of Bodom - Something Wild - cover art Children Of Bodom is a new death metal act from Finland and this is their debut album. The band has taken the concept of death metal one step further and developed a unique style that I haven´t heard from any other band. They sound pretty much like a mix between In Flames and Nightwish. Their music is intense, bombastic and extremely melodic. Children Of Bodom consists of very talented musicians because this kind of music requires real technical skills that few people have. Without a doubt this is one of the best debut albums ever to be released and it is only tiny steps away from being perfect. There are some minor flaws in the production and the songwriting needs to developed further. Note that I´m now trying real hard to find anything negative about this release because bands like Children Of Bodom don´t pop up too often. With the ever-growing competition in the metal scene these days this is what it takes to reach the highest top. If you like metal of any kind and don´t mind growling death metal vocals this is an album that can´t possibly disappoint you. If so, go see a doctor right away (I hope noone takes this seriously because then we will have a number of very confused doctors)!
