Another one-man black metal band is here, Chimera. This time it’s a guy named Vishtasb from Italy that has recorded a disc for us to enjoy. and it sounds like most of the symphonic black metal does with this level of production. It is fast, agonized and well worked through. It’s kind of a soft version of black, sounding like Agathodaimon and such. So what does Chimera have that no other bands have that should grab our interest? Well, nothing really. This record is OK, not bad, but yet not great. And great is quite necessary if you’d like to be acknowledged by the great mass. It is good that the underground scene exists and I, who play in a band, would be very glad if me and my band could release some of our stuff. And Vishtasb have probably worked quite hard to be able to get that opportunity. Then it’s unfortunate that the finished product doesn’t reverberate with sound of that quality you had hoped for and must hear to like it. One thing that I really dislike is that the vocals are hidden so much behind the instruments in the mix. Well, they kind of suck on this recording anyway but I like it better when the voice is more present than in this case. Some of the keyboard melodies are very beautiful but looking at the whole spectra, “Nothing But Illusions” is much too average…
