REVIEW: Chrome Division - Doomsday Rock n Roll Nuclear Blast, 2006
7/10
Chrome Division - Doomsday Rock n Roll - cover art Apparently inspired by the success of gritty Nordic hard rock bands such as The Hellacopters, Backyard Babies and his countrymen Turbonegro in particular, Chrome Division was put together by Dimmu Borgir's own front demon Shagrath in 2004. Two years and a few line-up changes later they have, not surprisingly, found a home at Nuclear Blast for the release of their debut effort "Doomsday Rock 'n Roll". This is an album that smells of gasoline, filled with Motörhead rhythms, a punk attitude and plenty of rough-edged and straight-forward hard rock riffs as well as the mandatory amount of sharp guitar solos. To put the final kick in the face the vocal assault from Eddie Guz (The Carburetors) fits perfectly well together with all other elements that make Chrome Division a complete rock 'n roll band. This is perfect party rock and there is quite a bit of impressive guitar work present on this album, which actually often reminds more of Iron Maiden than more closely related bands, but in the long run this kind of straight-forward hard rock is almost as interesting as a puddle of mud. Chrome Division should not play at major festival stages but be enjoyed with a certain amount of alcohol in the blood at your local rock joint. It is almost impossible to rate an album like this one because it only entertains under certain circumstances.
