Grind seems to be outweighing the other
influences on this, the band's third full-length. As with most "grind"
bands, there are a ton of short songs on this album, each seeming to meld with
the next until, in CODC's case, an actual catchy riff or noise-core part
stands out from the mess; this is the case on tracks like "Oak and Iron",
where I briefly thought that the songs reminded me of Internal Suffering with
more breakdowns. Joe Horvath has some great, gurgling, toilet-bowl low vocals,
but I despise his highs, which follow the Relapse-esque noise/math scream
template. The fact that "Human Harvest" was produced and mastered by Steve
Austin is likely supposed to be mentioned here; his work on this album is
definitely above average, which is something I can only reluctantly say in the
case of the band and songs themselves. Circle of Dead Children come off as
dishonest this time around for some reason, in spite the simple and realistic
lyrics.
