It’s been two years since Circle of Dead Children’s last full length album “Human Harvest”. Finally they’ve come up with this mCD titled “Zero Comfort Margin”. In just over 20 minutes they travel through numerous short samples (less than one minute) and a couple of longer songs, all at 200 miles an hour. I’ve never been a real fan of grindcore but I can appreciate Circle of dead Children’s fist towards society. There’s not much to say about the first few songs, except the fact that it’s brutal grindcore presented in a peculiar way. Expectedly, I have never seen a so-called mCD containing 15 tracks, in fact I’ve never seen an mCD like this before, but I must say this concept of all the short samples and few real songs doesn’t fall bad. Unfortunately the production of this mCD falls behind a little making it sound quite meagre on several occasions. Especially in the song “Born on a Bomb Shell”. The title song (or perhaps I should say title sample) “Zero Comfort Margin” quickly gives us some details about what they do not like in the last 20 seconds of the song. To my ears the mCD as a whole lacks the variety to make it in the music scene, though every now and then a riff manages to catch my attention as in the songs “Whimper” and “Host(age)”. The production of this mCD lacks quite a lot as I stated before, but I think the true grindcore fan will learn to appreciate it, though it’s quite hard to get into. I, for one, can’t get into it, and must say that in my eyes it lacks the strength to make it, even though I quite like the lyrical concept. For the true fans I’d recommend the songs “Strip Naked for the Killer” and the title song, but that is as far as I get.
