REVIEW: Clan Of Xymox - Heroes Pandaimonium Records, 2007
7.5/10
Clan Of Xymox - Heroes - cover art Clan Of Xymox is a well known Dark Wave band and no recommendations are necessary, at least for those who know even just a little bit about this specific scene. This CD's release derives its name by the homonym David Bowie song and contains 3 songs, 2 of them in different additional versions, to total 5 tracks. This release is a "forerunner" of the forthcoming DVD, expected to be released within 2007. The industrial version of "Heroes" is slower, more melancholic and closer to the typical CoX songs, while the pop version is sorter, faster, sounds happier (more optimistic) and closer to the original song. Personally, I like both; however, it is a matter of personal taste and mood.

"On A Mission" is the only new song and both versions of it combine in harmony the Electrogoth elements with the guitar sound. "Be My Friend" is a song from the previous album Breaking Point performed in a new mix.

Generally speaking, the Electrogoth sound is unfamiliar -- not to say hostile -- to the majority of Metal fans; however here CoX manage to make their music at least sympathetic even to many of those who may be prejudiced against Dark Wave. This happens because on the one hand their music is well constructed, instrumented, and produced and on the other hand the melodies of the main themes are inspired (at least up to a point) and full of sentiment.
