REVIEW: Clan Of Xymox - Notes From The Underground Pandaimonium Records, 2001
7.5/10
Clan Of Xymox - Notes From The Underground - cover art Ever since their beginning in 1984 the Dutch band Clan Of Xymox has been one of the leading gothic / electronic bands in the world and in Europe they have become something of a cult band. When listening to the band's newest album "Notes From The Underground" it is not hard to understand why. They always manage to create very passionate music with plenty of melancholy and an amazing atmosphere. While some gothic metal bands like Moonspell and Type O Negative tend to become slightly boring this is a band that knows how to use deep male vocals and still keep it interesting. Now I must admit that a few of the slower tracks on this album don't sound that exciting either but altogether this is a very nice album that fans of melodic music in general should be able to enjoy. The second track of this album, "I Want You Now", is one of the best songs Clan Of Xymox have produced so far. When the band uses electronics like this they sound at their best but the slower tracks like "Internal Darkness" easily gets a little boring. Holland is a country that has produced a lot of interesting bands in the 80's and 90's and Clan Of Xymox is one of the most interesting.
