This is the debut album from this Swedish metal band.
Clawfinger is a band that deserves a lot more attention than they have
received so far. Of course their music ain't as complex as that of bands like
Iced Earth or Dream Theater but the rap-like vocals and the aggressive but
still very intelligent lyrics are among the best there is to find these days.
You have to feel sorry for the people who can't appreciate the beauty of true
metal because there is so much in it - everything from powerful, fast and
highly technical music like Iced Earth and Megadeth (at least most of their
material...) to slower emotional one like Theatre of Tragedy and My Dying
Bride. There are intelligent and aggressive lyrics that really make you think
about what is happening in our world, unlike the Spice Girls/Britney Spear pop
that unfortunately has cast it's spell on most people today. Well..., back to
this album... The singer of Clawfinger - Zak Tell - really knows how to spit
out words at mach speed; some of the vocals on this and their other albums are
extremely fast. As usual the main theme of their lyrics is the fighting
against all kinds of rasism which still is a question of vital importance.
It's sad to see that so many people dislike or even hate other people just
because of their background or sexual preference but I'm afraid this is
something we will always have to live with but we must never accept or ignore
it. A couple of the songs on this album deal with these questions and the
others with war, political lies, drug abuse but there are also a couple of a
more personal nature like I need you and Catch me. Altogether
it's a great album by one of the best metal bands ever to come out of Sweden.
If you haven't heard Clawfinger you have really missed
something!
