REVIEW: Cobolt 60 - Meat Hook Ballet Head Not Found, 2002
7/10
Cobolt 60 - Meat Hook Ballet - cover art Cobolt 60 is a brand new Norwegian band featuring the Blood Red Throne vocalist Flemming Gluch and Daniel Olaisen who have helped Satyricon out on tour besides handling his own band Scariot. Unlike most new bands from the country this is not a traditional black metal project. Despite the gory cover art, what we have hear is a very thrashy debut album with stellar production by Endre Kirkesola at Dub Studio. If this album cover does not attract the judging eyes of censorship then I don't know what will. Now on to the music which is the single reason why I am writing this review at all. This actually reminds me a little of good old Carpathian Forest with Slayer vs. Darkthrone riffs but it is generally more straightforward and with a less black color. Cobolt 60 is at the moment only meant to be a studio project because of the busy lives of the band members but they have nonetheless done one or two live appearances so far. Perhaps there is more to come on the live scene for them because this debut album is certainly enjoyable for everyone into old-school thrash metal with violent vocals. Nothing extraordinary or groundbreaking in any way but definitely a quality release worth checking out. Stand-out tracks: "Night Stalker", "Salvation Principle Result" and the final track "Incineration (The Apical Of Fire)" which has a nice acoustic intro.
