REVIEW: Coercion - Lifework Animate Records, 2003
8.5/10
Coercion - Lifework - cover art Finally I caught a new underground release that will keep my CD player busy. "Lifework" is the new deed from Coercion consisting of 5 tracks. All of them are great songs, delivering brutal, raw sounding Death Metal in the best tradition of the glorious early nineties. Straight forward from beginning to end, with rhythms that will move you, it really passes quickly that I want to play it again and again for dozen of times. I can’t find one bad moment on this recording in terms that it gets boring or badly played. Still, all the time it’s traditional music, no experiments, just old, bad breath. There is no much need to describe the sound of "Lifework" since I already told you it’s totally traditional. The album is totally dynamic, it leads you with no stops all the way till the end. The production is superb, it fits the album like a glow. I haven’t heard recently a sound of drums that reminds of a blacksmith's hammer! Here you have it, just listen to "Passive Tool" for example! One more thing I found excellent, contrary to my expectations, is the lyrics. These ones are real lyrics, probably even poetry. They are totally dark, depressive and go with the music as one. Well, no conclusion needed, if you love Death Metal get this one!
