Coldseed is a rather unusual constellation mostly known for featuring former Blind Guardian drummer Thomen Stauch and Soilwork singer Björn Strid. Joining them are well-known Blind Guardian musicians such as Oliver Holzwarth and Mi Schüren but also the relatively unknown Thorsten Praest and a Spanish guitarist called Gonzalo Alfageme López. While featuring some high profile names from the world of metal, the first album from the band is surprisingly disappointing. Björn Strid's clean vocals shine through once in a while as in "Democracy Lesson" but overall this is a collection of particularly simplistic songs that are seemingly inspired by the current metalcore trend as well as the American heavy rock scene. All-star bands such as this one often tend to result in albums like "Completion Makes The Tragedy". Success is not impossible to reach but it takes a very talented song writer such as Jon Schaffer with Demons & Wizards and in this case the band is desperately in lack of one. Bits and pieces are worthy of being recorded but the only possible reason for this release is Nuclear Blast's wish to cash in on the band members. Mr. Stauch and Mr. Strid should stick to what they know.
