REVIEW: Colloquio - Si Muove E Ride Eibon Records, 2007
7/10
Colloquio - Si Muove E Ride - cover art Colloquio offer a respectable dose of ambient pop music, far from conventional, commercial patterns. Of course, this Italian act won't sell millions of albums nor will it appear on MTV; their music is halfway between the atmosphere of incidental music and the dour harmonies à la Canaan. In fact this album is released through Mauro's label Eibon, though Colloquio don't try to imitate the Italian legends. Oh, surely Canaan followers could enjoy this collection of songs, since those darkwave elements flourish in splendour, relaxing tunes succeed in succession and tranquil moods fill the air. Synths commanding the organic body of the songs, accompanied by the crawling murmurs of Gianni Pedretti and programmed rhythms; these are the basic elements of this band. All in all Si Muove E Ride features a strong feeling of calmness and melancholy, evening sounds, rain music, I know you get the point... there are no complex technical solutions and the band is rather focused in ambience, well performed and achieved through the minimalist instrumentation, whose relevant lines are emotional note sequences weeping on and on. These songs may result as cute incidental sounds but in my opinion they lack something special and easily drown in boredom after several listens due to its certain monotone patterns. Anyway, this is not cheesy stuff at all and at least here we have some nice tunes to listen to when the world becomes grey for a moment, without being fooled by sonic treachery or cheap marketing tricks.
