Would you believe that these talented musicians hail all the way from Norway? They must have been fed a steady diet of Nevermore, Nevermore, Nevermore, King Diamond, Nevermore, and Halford. Firmly entrenched in the megaProgressive Thrash sound familiar to fans of -- you guessed it -- Nevermore (!), Communic's sophomore record, Waves of Visual Decay, is massively solid. That all this greatness was created by three gentlemen is damn near mind boggling. Not unlike Nevermore (there's that name again), a little Queensrÿche creeps in now and again, though this never strays very from the field of Metal like those mind crime operators. A Gothic vibe is introduced on some of the more moody pieces, particularly in the pensive parts of "Watching it All Disappear," and this adds to the intrigue of the sound. Vocals shift from Warrel Dane-esque melancholy to Halford-ian wailing with the Scandinavian flavor of King Diamond. The drumming is expressive but not overbearing while the bass fills out the sound created by excellent guitarwork. Impressive all around, if this is just the band's second release in as many years, the future should prove extremely promising. Get on the bandwagon early and don't dislike the band when your friends come around to liking them, too.
