Morbid Angel meets Mr. Bungle is my first impression I get from listening to Conspiracy. They aren’t fast, but the guttural vocals sound much like earlier Morbid Angel. The song writing is very strange, I say Mr. Bungle because the song writing is schizophrenic. Always changing, but not really knowing what the fuck’s happening. With two band members, Conspiracy has plenty of ideas. They try hard at sounding technical, but they don’t deliver completely. Each song sounds totally different from each other, but it’s cool that they aren’t afraid of taking risks in the song writing. Including many industrial samplings and different instruments Conspiracy are rare. I’m sure with more time, and maybe more members, they can record an intense piece of music. They do create a wicked atmosphere especially midway through “Experiments of the Mind”, that’s when I take notice and start to get into Conspiracy. But then they lose me with their rhythms. The drumming needs a lot of work, because I think that if it were more present then the overall sound would be far more brutal. The guitar is driving each song, which gets rather annoying, especially with the soloing. Actually, the guitarist needs the most work. When Conspiracy is mellow or softer (almost Black Sabbath like), that’s when they seem to have their shit together. Interesting effort, but too much doesn’t work for the band. Too many different influences being tied together, the result sounds lost.
