REVIEW: Corpus Christii - The Fire God Hiberica Records, 2001
6/10
Corpus Christii - The Fire God - cover art These Portugese guys are back with their 2nd album, since their formation in 1998. Their brand of fast, raw black metal is surely well in it's place, and although they seem to lean upon several more known older bands, like Mayhem, DarkThrone and early Emperor in the structuring, they have managed to create an album that stands the test here and now. Much from the aggressive and in-your-face black metal, however I feel that with a stronger "punch" in the sound, it could have turned out even stronger. If it will be much remembered in the future I am uncertain of, but as the band claim "Black Metal in all it's Violence and Perversion", this might go home to the fans of that exact genre, but I fear most others will pass on this one, although it's far from a bad job the band has done. Necrobutcher from Mayhem does also a stand-in job on the Mayhem coversong "Buried By Time and Dust" which is maybe a little unnescessary, but keeps the sound of the rest of the album.
