REVIEW: Courageous - Inertia Mausoleum Records, 2004
6/10
Courageous - Inertia - cover art The German Heavy Metal quintet Courageous released the well-done album “Remember” in 2002. In the follow up, “Inertia” released in November 2004, the band has evolved somewhat. The album contains twelve tracks of modern Heavy Metal, all intelligently arranged. Frankfurt based Courageous has a lot of good qualities such as great songs with a perfect mix of heaviness and melody without getting boring or monotone. The title track, “Trapped” and “But My Freedom” are examples of that. The backside is this: In the album “Remember”, the sound was close to a popular band from Seattle and unfortunately Courageous has with “Inertia” taken a step even closer to Nevermore. It is not completely plagiarism, but the resemblance is striking and the production adds to the similarity. The members of Courageous are skilled musicians but sadly it is hard to see the band as anything but the world’s best Nevermore copy. If this was not the case I would give “Inertia” a better grade. Still, if you are a Nevermore fan, you should probably check out this record.
