REVIEW: Covenant - Nexus Polaris Nuclear Blast, 1998
8/10
Covenant - Nexus Polaris - cover art Covenant has been formed by former members of Norway's satanic masters Dimmu Borgir and sounds also like a D.B. light. There are still lots of keyboards in the music but not as prominent and protruding as it is with Dimmu. They have also changed the satanic theme to a mysterious cosmic one but they still have their old weird names left (e.g. Nagash and Astennu). The male vocals are somewhere between death metal growling and classic metal singing and are accompanied by female choiring from the great Sarah Jezebel Deva (Therion, Cradle of Filth). The music is still very much based on keyboard with some fine melodic guitar playing but it´s unfortunately not as good as old Dimmu. A few great songs can be found such as the last one but the album can get a little boring from time to time. High quality music and great production though!
