REVIEW: Crest Of Darkness - Project Regeneration Listenable Records, 2001
6.5/10
Crest Of Darkness - Project Regeneration - cover art This is the third album from Norwegian black metallers Crest Of Darkness, originally formed as a solo project by the former Conception bassist Ingar Amlien. Their way of playing is therefore very progressive and riff-happy even though it is still extreme and brutal as black metal ought to be. There is also a fair amount of somewhat weird electronic sampling on this album which is not that strange since the lyrical concept is kind of futuristic, telling stories about a not so bright future for the modern man. While the music of Crest Of Darkness is quite good at times I am not that fond of the weak black vocals. The female vocals from Kristin Fjellseth (who has since then left the band to focus on her other band Pale Forest, new on the Listenable label) don't impress me that much either although she has a very nice voice. In short there are some enjoyable music on this album but the vocals are unfortunately below average. Crest Of Darkness is however a creative band and if you enjoy riff-happy black metal with female vocals you might want to check them out anyway. Apparently there are a lot of people who like their music more than I do.
