REVIEW: Crowbar - Live: With Full Force (DVD) Candlelight Records, 2007
8.5/10
Crowbar - Live: With Full Force (DVD) - cover art "Filmed at the popular German open air festival of the same name, Live: With Full Force was captured on Crowbar's world tour supporting their 2005 release, Lifesblood for the Downtrodden. The live performance DVD further includes 45 minutes of rockumentary style footage featuring Jimmy Bower (Down, Eyehategod) and Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed)." So it is. Crowbar is a band familiar to this writer since 1993 and one that has had its share of downs. That's right, no ups. From label issues to a seemingly constantly revolving line-up, Kirk Windstein has weathered it all, including that bitch named Katrina. If Evil Chuck hadn't named a record The Sound of Perseverance surely Crowbar would or should have.

To the review, this is not your typical throw away DVD (see Flotsam & Jetsam's Live in Japan) with a poorly recorded, brief live set and one or two videos thrown in to add some semblance of value. No, this DVD sports a reasonably well recorded live set, though the vocals seem to be really high in the mix, all of Crowbar's promotional videos, and additional interview footage interspersed throughout the live set to pace one's viewing pleasure. Most of the interview action is with Kirk his damned self, natch, but there's also a good section of footage with Jimmy "N'awlins Legend" Bower and another with Jamey "I love Kirk" Jasta. There are also brief interview segments with current members of the band wherein they all say that if Kirk had called them earlier, they would have joined Crowbar then.

Elsewhere, and as in an interview this writer conducted with Mr. Windstein on the release date of their latest studio effort, Kirk again professes his love for Sade and '70s rock as well as waxing nostalgic on bands perhaps surprisingly claiming Crowbar as an influence. These include Chimaira and Killswitch Engage for cryin' out loud! Additionally there is some backstage and on tour footage -- certainly enough to make this a worthwhile endeavor for the seasoned Crowbar veteran and novice alike. Briefly, if ever a fan of the band, this DVD is mandatory. If merely curious, this is also a good place to start. It is also worth noting that Steve Gibb's younger brother Travis(both sons of Barry Gibb, incidentally -- yeah, that guy) had a hand in putting together this fine DVD with his company Multimedia Depot.
