Cryogenic was
founded in "93" coming from Germany not to be confused
with the australian
outfit with the same name. (Screw them!) This is
their debut cd that I bought
for only 3 dollars and I coudnt believe
how
good of a cd this was for a
measly 3. They seem to have gone for the
viking gimmick on the front cover
but on the inside layout they use a
broad mix of black metal and doom laden
imagery. Cool pics of the
corpse
painted members transparent with
atmospheric photos and the Lyrics are
in german,
It starts off with the
usual Keyboard intro... wich after a
while can be monotanous BUT THEN!!! the
first track called "Wanderer"
Is
so good that I almost didnt care about
the other songs. Instead of the
dead 4 chord progressions the song breaks the
mold with a stunning and
melodic chorus that sticks in your head. That gave
me a quite a
fondness
for this album.
The keyboards are well played and
plentyful. Im a sucker for a good
atmospheric keyboard sound and this is one
of them wich at the same
time
makes you ignore the So-So vocals. It is a
good mix overall with a
great
drum sound. Some might be turned off by the
female vocal parts and im a
harsh critic of them too. However the female
vocals on Processia
nocturna (part 1) won me over. a very interresting piece
of atmosphere
and melody. But dont worry this will not disapppiont the ones
looking
for speed because they do not cut corners with that. Cryogenic
isn't
very well known and that is a shame. With a name like "Cryogenic"
it
sounds like it would be a Death metal band but this is pure
symphonic
black metal on a professional scale that would give Dimmu Borgir a
run
for thier money. and speaking of that I sure got my full 3 bucks out
of
this cd.
