REVIEW: Cryonic Temple - Blood, Guts & Glory Limb Music Products, 2003
6.5/10
Cryonic Temple - Blood, Guts & Glory - cover art The Swedish power metal band Cryonic Temple is back with their second album, now signed to the German label Limb Music Products and Publishing. If not already found out by the title of this album, you just need to take a look at the tracklist to get to know what their songs are about (e.g. "Mercenaries Of Metal", "The Story Of The Sword", "Thunder And Lightning", "Long Live The Warriors" and even "Triumph Of Steel"). In case you are thinking about Hammerfall now, you aren't far off. Simply mix them with Manowar, Helloween and Lost Horizon and what comes out sounds quite similar to Cryonic Temple. This disc is full of 'Blood', 'Swords', 'Warriors' and 'Steel'... but what's wrong with riding on this wave that has brought success to other bands? In fact this album, especially the lyrics, have fallen too deep into this cliché and the originality suffers from this fact. Nevertheless these Swedes have a good mix of well composed melodic parts and speed in their songs. However, it is almost impossible to find something you could call their 'own style' in here. After all, if you like Hammerfall and / or this genre in general, you should give them a try. Just don't expect anything special.
