"Time Walker" is the fifth full-length album from Swiss hard rockers Crystal Ball who have found their way to Nuclear Blast, a label that has been prone deal with music with a harder edge. They offer us even more of their classic brand of guitar driven hard rock with melodic metal riffs and catchy vocals from the incredibly gifted vocalist Mark Sweeney. Passionate sing-along choruses and uplifting lyrics make this album the direct opposite of what most other Nuclear Blast releases have to offer the listener. Something that needs to be mentioned here is that I appreciate Crystal Ball's use of guitar solos. There are no predictable Yngwie scales but much more feeling to them and they are not unnecessarily lengthy so as to interfere with the basic driving riffs of each song. Musical passion straight from the heart is what colors this entire recording and you can feel that the musicians love what they're doing and let their instruments speak their emotions and feelings. For a few moments in "Mozart Symphony" Mark Sweeney sounds very much Geoff Tate but that is about the only time. Positively charged but not cheesy nor exaggerated. Call me a girl or a wuss but this is good stuff! Favorite picks: "Digital World", "Mozart Symphony", "Fallen From Grace", "The Eye Of The Storm".
