This is the second full-length album
from the Swedish power metallers of Crystal Eyes. Their music is completely
Europower inspired with lots of cheerful melodies. Unfortunately the vocals
are often becoming too cheesy and naive with a childish playfulness that
almost makes you laugh. However, there is lots of great music on this album
too If you do not fall in love with the beautiful melody on "Sons Of Odin"
there has got to be something wrong with you (or you have already found the
love of your life). Power metal hymns without much variation does not impress
me that much anymore since it has already been done a thousand times by now
and there are not that many bands that know how to add that extra touch that
still makes it worth listening to. Crystal Eyes is and is not one of those at
the same time. I can´t make up my mind whether I love or hate this album, some
of the songs I really enjoy and some of them are too cheesy and naive for my
taste. Having opened up for Blind Guardian on their tour in 1996 I have to
admit that Crystal Eyes have certain Blind Guardian elements in their music to
a lesser degree. What they do have is several beautiful melodies that probably
will satisfy most power metal fans in the world. You should all check out this
band and judge for yourselves because I think this is an album that create
different opinions. Strength: some of the most beautiful melodies ever created
by a power metal band. Weakness: the vocals. The album was recorded and mixed
by the band and Detlef Mohrmann at Studio Mohrmann during September and
October 2000. The cover artwork was done by the one and only Kristian
Wåhlin.
