Crystalium is one of the hidden treasures that the black
metal scene in France has to offer and with this second album the band shows a
great deal of progress and give an overall very solid and mature appearance.
This is one of very few black metal bands who have dared to go their own way
and write their lyrics almost entirely in their native language. Yes, I know,
the Norwegians have done this for a very long time but there are not many
black metal bands who have done this in other countries, at least not of the
bands that have left the demo stage. I am pretty sure you have never heard the
French language like this before, isn't it a romantic and beautiful tongue...
Crystalium play aggressive warlike black metal and they do it extremely well
but apart from being skilled song writers and musicians they also have one of
the best black metal vocalists in the world right now in the band. He goes by
the name Blizzard Cillag but that tells you about as much as if I were to ask
you if you would like to buy a TV numbered AHU8823. At least he screams as if
he had the force of a thousand man strong army of orks behind him and I am
pretty sure that he doesn't. Another thing that leaves its mark on this album
is the use of Gregorian like vocals and chanting. This is an element that
strangely enough suits their massive sound very well and it creates a very
interesting contrast to the harsh aggressive side of their music. To sum it up
I would like to say that "De Aeternitate Commando" is one of the most
powerful and majestic black metal pieces I have heard coming out of France for
a long time. It dies a little towards the last couple of tracks but otherwise
this is a great album worthy of the praise I have given it.Stand-out tracks:
"Le Suis Le Christ", "Lorsque L'Élite Sera Couronnée De Flammes"
(amazing!).
