REVIEW: Cumshots, the - Just Quit Trying Big Dipper Records, 2006
3/10
Cumshots, the - Just Quit Trying - cover art The Norwegian quintet The Cumshots delivers rock n roll with influences from stoner rock as well as from metal. The band has in the past been praised by the critics and “Just Quit Trying” is their third full-length. I find it hard to understand that people compare these Norwegian to bands like Slayer and Entombed. They are not bad musicians but the Cumshots sure are boring. This genre is crowded as it is and if you want to make interesting music you need to have that extra something. Just having lyrics that are pushing the limits for what’s socially acceptable does not add edge to the music. Sometimes the Cumshots show that they can write a good riff, but there are just too much macho bullshit on this record and not enough creativity. If you aren’t a big fan of the band already I suggest that you spend your money on another record.
